    Description

    Carotene is the molecule that makes carrots orange. It is a chemical substance called carotenoids, which can be found in many fruits and vegetables and some animal products (such as egg yolks). From a biological point of view, carotene is the most important as the precursor of vitamin a. It also has antioxidant properties and may help prevent cancer and other diseases.

    Carotene is also called provitamin, because it can be converted into vitamin a after being oxidized and cleaved by carotene 15150 dioxygenase in our body. In plants, β-carotene acts as an antioxidant, neutralizing singlet oxygen free radicals formed during photosynthesis.
